Consider November 8th The Day Paradise Burned Down Progression of Fast Moving Wildfire

6:30 AM: The Camp Fire is pronounced the most destructive and deadly wildfire ever experienced in California. Here is what has happened since the blaze ignited around 6:30 AM on November 8, 2018 near Feather River.

A few days prior to November 8, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) warned residents of Butte County that it might decide to shut down the power grid to protect against possible strong winds on Thursday. Then, Incident No. 181108-9002 by Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), logged damage to a power line just outside Pulga, a small community in Butte County, California.

8:00 AM: By 8:00 AM that morning, the flames burned into the town of Paradise, California, which at that time many had only just received an evacuation order.

10:30 AM: By 10:30 AM, eye witnesses observe that it appeared like nighttime outside and the sky a deep reddish-brown color as thick spoke obstructed the sun. Residents of Ridgewood Mobile Home Park are not warned with an evacuation order until 10:45 AM as the flames engulf them.

Emergency workers help evacuate Adventist Health Feather River Hospital in Paradise, moving 67 patients out and escaping in the nick of time before the hospital is consumed by fire.

Many residents escaped via Skyway, a four lane roadway that leads from Paradises down to the valley city of Chico. On this day, the pleasant trip to commuters and day-trippers turned into a roadway of desperation people in traffic creeping within the fast moving flames. Live video of the scene showed fire burning on both sides of the roadway in what appeared to be a nighttime scene.

6:00 PM: By 6:00 PM on the evening of November 8th, 2018, the Camp Fire burned almost 55k acres and traveled nearly 17 mile in distance. Within 12 hours,  10,000 structures in Paradise CA can be labeled 50% destroyed.

10 Days Later: More than 10 days following ignition, Camp Fire still burned, growing mostly east. By November 18, 2018, officials announce the fire is at 50% containment and has claimed the lives of at least 76, with thousands more still missing.
