Fatal Motorcycle Accidents Shut Down Major Southern California Area Freeways – Two fatal motorcycle accidents shut down major freeways this week in the Los Angeles area and Riverside area of Southern California. Early Wednesday morning, in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, a motorcyclist crashed during the morning commute at 5:00 a.m., causing the 10 freeway transition to the 110 Freeway to be shut down for two hours. This accident created a traffic jam in the most heavily traveled stretch of downtown during the most congested hours of the morning. The motorcyclist, who has not yet been identified by the California Highway Patrol, was thrown from the transition road, landing onto Venice Blvd below. The biker was pronounced dead at the scene by CHP. Traffic accident investigators re-opened the freeway lanes just after 7:00 a.m.
Earlier in the week on Monday in Corona, a motorcycle crash killed a 35 year old man from San Bernardino at around 10:00 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Sixth Street. According to witnesses, the fatal collision occurred when a commercial truck driver made a left turn in front of the biker who was riding west on Sixth Street, Corona Police said. The driver and passenger of the truck were not injured. The motorcyclist, who was later identified as Rudy Villarreal, was pronounced dead at the scene. Corona Police Department Traffic Accident Investigators said they do not know if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. The driver of the truck has not been arrested and the investigation is ongoing. West Sixth Street was closed to traffic until after 3:00 p.m. in both directions between Lincoln and Sherman for the accident investigation.
