Cement Truck Collision Shuts Down Several Lanes of 5 Freeway
TUSTIN, CA [Aug. 28, 2020] – A northbound cement truck collided with a median on the 5 Freeway. According to reports from dispatchers, the collision occurred Thursday morning at 9:00 AM, north of Red Hill Avenue.
The crash left the cab of the truck in the southbound lanes, while the trailer was still in the northbound lanes. Both halves of the truck were separated by the broken median. Since the truck was carrying a full load of cement to a worksite, multiple lanes were covered in cement.
A Toyota Tundra and a minivan subsequently collided into the crashed truck. California Highway Patrol has not reported on the extent of the injuries of those involved.
It is still unclear what events led to the initial collision, or how many passengers were in the two civilian vehicles.
The three-vehicle collision caused several lanes in both the south- and northbound lanes to close for several hours while cleanup crews removed debris and cement off the freeway.
